Fusion ~ the Anthology from Fantastic Books Publishing

I entered the Fantastic Books 2012 short story competition and am delighted two of my stories not only made it to the shortlist (final ten) but are also included in this anthology ~ published on Kindle and very reasonably priced ~ an excellent Christmas gift ~ or just treat yourself! Click on the image below for more details.

The collection Fusion is compiled from the winners of the Fantastic Books Publishing International Charity Short Story Competition 2012 and features 2 stories from professional contributors Danuta Reah and Stuart Aken.

10% of the proceeds from the book will be donated to the WCRF (World Cancer Research Fund) ~ I like that very much.

First Love

piano

The piano is in need of tuning
So it can be played in key
Music is my first love
Rock opera symphony

I love music sheets tucked inside the seat
Of piano stool beneath
Music soft music loud music beautiful
Uplifting and complete

Dissonance: off key
Jangles discord clang clang
The music chaotic bitter sharp
Air disturbed bang bang

Black keys and white keys
Wait proud and still
For the piano tuner’s lever
(Here he comes up the hill)

He plays sotto voce
Presto forte staccato allegro
Adagio tosto tutti vivace
Tenerezza eco o o o o oh

A tonic in tune once more
Affettuoso read the score
Pianissimo dolcissimo
Come play me piano implores

Update on Ghoulish Easter Competition

Hi Geoff, Carrie and Holly, Wendy completed our story in the Ghoulish Easter Competition, please take a look and let me have your views on what we should do with it.  Would like ideas from all reading this post, your thoughts would be very welcome as this is a first for me (!)  You can find a copy of the jointly created story on this blog, just search for ‘Ghoulish Easter Competition’.

Look forward to hearing from you :)

Ghoulish Easter Competition

The silent house 3, B&W

Here is an Easter challenge, a competition for all you creative fiends!  You’ll see below the start of a nasty piece of work.  Your job is to write the next paragraph once you’ve read the story so far. You can join in as often as you like – the only rule is no two consecutive paragraphs by the same writer.  Let’s see where we can go with this one!

Comments on each writer’s contribution(s) will appear on Facebook under ‘A challenge … a competition for all you creative fiends …’  to avoid interrupting the flow of the story.

Remember to post your submission to the comment section below, anywhere else and your piece will not be part of the competition.

Competition ends midnight Easter Monday.

It was nearly midnight, Maggie looked through the window.  Fear held her silent, her throat constricted and she felt herself screaming inside, agape at the evil, snarling, rictus-drawn face that hissed ‘I am coming for you when the time is right’.  She looked at her phone, just 23:31. What did it mean, ‘when the time is right’?
